Whitby won the opener et Pool Park on Aug. 3 by a score of 7-2. Joel Prues pitched the first five innings and gave up two runs on three bits wbile issuing five walks and striking out two. David Beckford "pitched the final two innings and struck eut one wbile facing the minimum six batters. Whitby broke on top 3-0 in the second inning. With one eut, Mike Dunford and Judd Stevenson bit back te back singles. A Beckford groundout advanced the runnors and beth scored when Clarington made a double errer on a ground bell bit by Wayne Wickens. Wickens thon stèle second and scored on a double by Prues. Whitby scored an unearned mun in the fourth inning te make the score 4-1 and thon put the gaine away in the sixth when they scored three more tinios. Mike Dunford led off with a single, bis second of the gaine. Ho thon scored on a single by a slumping Chris Lazany. RBI singles by Wickens and Luko Harden completed the scering. Whitby conpleted the series on Aug. 5 et Claingten, romping te a 16-0 victory. Dunford pitched the first three innings for Whitby, giving up Clartington's only bit, an infield single in the second inning. Ho walked one and struck eut four. John Barr pitched two bitless innings, walkcing one and striking eut one. Ryan Mitchell pitched the final inning, striking eut one. in the top three et each race in the Pro Yamaha senior class,ý racing in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Indigna. Whitby, which flnished first overall with a 17-1-1 record, breezed througb the early stages of the teurnainent defeating Clarington 12-1, Ajax 11-2 and Oshawa 8-2. Whitby opened up on Friday night against Niagara Falls. After a delayed start due te rain, Whitby was leading 6-3 after five innings when the gaine was suspended duo te a light curfew. The gaine was resumed the following morning and Wbhitby held on te a win 6-4. Hawks capitalized by scoring four runs in the flrst inning, three of wbich were unearned. Heather Seamone went the distance on the znound striking eut four and only walking three. Lesley Aitkenhead made three sparkling catches in the outfield, including the final out, te keep the Niagara bats et bey. Whitby hitting was led by Tania Chapeil with two singles and Gail Bradley with a double. Catcher Jil Innes picked off a runner et third base in the sixth,- stepping a late inning rally. Hawks advanced te play East Gwillimbury in the second round. Whitby hitting wes led by Gannon and Kriistin Foster with a double and a single each, two singles by Chappell and Elyse Sorichetti. Foster and Osborne scored three runs each. In the third round, Whitby caine up against Aurora Diggers, losing a very tigbt defensive gaine 4-3 in eight inninga. Down by one run in the bottoin of the seventh, Bradley bit a single and scored on Poster's RBI groundout, tying the gaine et two and forcing the extra freine. Whitby gave up twe runs in the eighth on a back-to-back single and double. Down by two, Hawks rallied in the bottom haif of the inning te, score one but left the go-ahead run stranded on second base. Gale, Chappeli, Leanno Gannen, Innos and Sorichetti had two singles each. Again Seainone went the distance, pitching al eight innings, fa.cing 35 battors, striking out two and waling one. By losing in the third round, Whitby was facod with a rematch against Niagara on Sunday morning. The Fals tean made their way back into the semi-finals; by winning four gaines straight against Pickering, Woodstock, East Gwillimbury and Milton. Again it took extra innings te make a decision and this time Whitby came eut on top winning 10-9 in the top of the eighth. Foster led Hawks at the plate driving out three singles, with a triple and e single by Chappeli, a double and a single by Sorichetti, and two singles each by Osborne and Gannon. A trip to Barre, Vermont for a two-day Prokart Challenge Race will include a roed course race on Saturday and a quarter-mile high banked oval on Sunday. This "short track" oval stock car track bas a 28-degree banking and te, race fans, is considered the 'Talladaga of the Short Tracks! This will be a new experience for OsIer, both in driving and kart set-up.
