Whitby Free Pressa, Wednesday, August 24,1994, Page 31 jMeranda Waters 'HENRY ST. H.S. .Hi! Are you surprised te see an article for Henry Street in the middle of August? Well, don't be! There's always. something exciting brewing in the Henry halls. Let's take the Sept. 1 "Grade Nine Day" as an example. Organizeci and hosteci by the Henry, helpers and student council, this is a fun-filled day for ail Grade 9 students. The main purpose of "Grade Nine Day" is to help our new hawklings become more comfortable with life at Henry Street. Starting at 10 a.m. in the new gym, this speciai day will give everyone a chance te, meet their new homeroom teachers and pick up their schedules. As well, a delicious barbecue and an adventurous scavenger hunt are planned. This is the perfect way te meet your new classmates, some of the Henry Street staff as well as many of the Hawk seniors. Be sure te, take part on Sept. 1 te sec just how exciting the next four years of your life are going te, be as a full-fledged Henry Street Hsiwk. And, bey, who says teenagers have to have aIl the fun? Adults can now earn their high schooi diploma in as little tinie as a semester. The staff at Henry Street wouid be pleased to provide an evaluation of your credit standings and assist you with appropriate class selection. And net only that, it's free. For more information on how you can beceme a Hawk and receive your high achool dipioma, give the school a cali at 668-2731. In case you haven't noticed, September seems te be a time for new beginnings. After you complete the four years of high school or decide te return as a mature student, your education doesn't have te stop there. In fact, for the majority of Henry's graduates, their education is just beginning. Somewhere within the first week of September, our retired Hawks, myseif one of theni, will be off te university or college. Talk about new beginnings. Where we were once dependent and free, we will soon be completely independent and very busy. I mean, going te sehool is î one thing, but cooking our own meals, washing cur, own clothes and dishes and taking care of ourselvea, by ourselves, is another. If you don't have an older sister or brother, I can give you a preWy good idea of what most of Henrys graduates are going through. By new the majority of the stress related te choosing and acheduling courses, learning te love electronic phone service and dealing with being a poor student (already), have probably worn off. Now we are left puzzling over niany unanswered"questions such as "Flow bad could it possibly be if I just didn't wash my clothes?", "What if my roommate idolizes Billy Ray Cyrus and Garth Brooks music?" and 'IHow do you boil an egg anyway7' I wish the best te everyone who will be starting something new this faîl. To the grade nines, I hope you get the most out of your years at Henry Street. And good luck te the Henry gracia, may you find the answers te ail your unanswered questions.
