To mark the occasion, the Town of Whitby is hosting a display' in the foyer of the municipal building and is inviting teachers, Scout/Guide groups and others who wish te do a study unit on park., to contact the park. and. recreation departnient. The Town of Whitby bas 110 parks.. and open spaces, comprising ore thn 100acres of land that fer bath active recreatiQnal facilities and passive natural area.. This inventory groWs annually with community growth and development in the Town which holds more than 70 pe cent of its waterfront lands in -public ownership: New 'additions' include the construction of the waterfront trail and the flist playground for the disabled at Pringle Park. T he Town of Whitby- was awarded one of the largest grants in Canada for tree planting and reforestation. Through the involveinent of many volunteers, special interest groups and numerous service clubs, our înany community parks truly are a feature te celebrate.
