The long trip resulted in a slow stârt by Wildcats as Newniarket scored on the final shift of the gaine. But then the hiWtby defence rose to the occasion. Whidtby pressed in the second jperiod and a penalty shot was awarded as a Newmarket player herd the puck in the crease. Kenny Henry, the team's leading acorer, macle ne mistake, tying the gaime at 1-1. Both teama hbad many opportunities to take the lead. however, oustanding goaltending was provided at both onde. With less than five minutes te play, Philip Mcflhone found the lower hand corner. Whitby was penalized with 1:50 remaining, but Newmarket could not score with the six-on-four advantage. Grant Howe scored with assiste from Ryan Meaney and Kevin Taylor, and the insurance goal was scored by Meaney, assisted by Howe. Goalies Brad McGitchie and Adam Rinaldi earned the shutout. On Saturday Whitby skated past Markham Thunder 6-1 at Luther Vipond Mrena. A fast- paced game left Marichaîn behind in the first perod. F'irst on the scoreboard was Stefan Hase with a deflected shot from the point on a power play with assiste froin Kyle Maybury and Ryan Robb. Whiitby'e second goal, scored while -short-handed, was by Chris Mfichaud from the point with- an assist by Gary Kitamura. Early in the second period Markham scored on a penalty shot.
