TI their firatgmeWhitby lost 2-1 te, a stiong sktating team from Barrie. Whitby opened the scoring late in the first period on a goal by Garett Richard. Barrie tied early in the second and went ahead three minutes later. In game two Whitby defeated West HIlI 3-2. Wihitby dominated in the first five minutes but were unable te put the puck past the opposition goaltender. Playing a mani short, West iI jumped on a clearing pass at the Whitby blueline and scored. Clearly shaken, Whbitby was unable te mount any sustained pressure until midway through the second period when they tied the score on J.R. O'Neil's goal. Whitby went ahead. early in the third period on a goal by David Fletcher. Five minutes later they counted an insurance marker on a goal by Richard. West Hill scored a power play goal in the last minute of play te make the final 3-2. In the consolation championship, Wildcats faced host Woodville. Whitby dominated play throughout the entire game but were unable te beat an excellent Woodville goaltender. The game ended in a scoreles tie and the teama înoved on te a five-minute, sudden-death over- time period. With the teains still deadlocked, the game moved on te a sudden-death simultaneous shootout. Fletcher scored on the firet penalty shot, while Ryan Lamiot stopped Woodvlle's shooter for a 1-0O Whitby victery. Whitby played well early and came out of the firat period tied 1-1 on the strength of Michael Lever's first of two goals, with Kyle Limkilde and Robert Muir drawing assists. The North Toronto goalie played well and at times kept bis team in the game, making numerous saves including a spectacular glove save on Limkilde from close in. Gurr wins gold in karate Lindsay Gurr, 12, of the Steve Hails School of Ishinryu Karate in Whitby, won a giold medal at a competition in Belleville Nov. 13, despite having had only six week~s of training. Gurr 'was first in white belt, and led a seven-medal perfor- mnance by H'ails club members. Matthew Campbell, Jason Geurts and Will Bright won il- ver in team kata (series of move- ments) in the age 11-12 division. Barry Hails, 9, won silver in individual kata and Paul Silva Jr. 12, won silver in kumite. Â bronze medal was earned by eight-year-old Tavish Decker in ippon kumite (one-step flighting). North Toronte chipped away during the second and third periods and took advantage of their breaks, building up 4-1 lead with a little more than five minutes te, go. Wildcats neyer gave up and staged a late comeback. Goals by Lever and Carl Dicarlo cut the lead te one with two minutes te gWhitby then dominated and had several chances to tie it, but were either thwarted by the North Toronto goalie or missed the net. In exhibition play, Wildcats lost 9-2 te Bowmanville. Limkilde and Sean Newport scored for Whitby. Atoms wi"n B titie The Whitby minor atom select hockey team, sponsored by Crawf Sports, had. another successful tournament at Manvers on Saturday, Nov. 19. After' losing 4-2 te Peterborough Ail Saints, Whitby went on te, beat both Sutten and Oshawa Canadians te win the B stream consolation trophy. The lime of Sean Kerr, Adam Death and Kistian Haikias came Up strong again, scoring five goals over the three games played. The other 'two limes of Rob Richards, Michael FInigan and Richard Thomas, and Thonmas McWhirter, Erik Peterson and Geof Wells, contributed te a balsnced attack by adding three more goals. The defence of Lee Waddington, B.F. Bowles, Andrew Hewson, Paul Lombardi, Brian Chard and Darryl Donaldson put together five assiats and a goal. Justin Connors played the first and third game in net while Drew Dockrill played the middle game. Sean Kerr and Adam Death were named most valuable players in gaines two and three respectively. Majors fait i*n B final The Brooklin-Whitby major atom AA hockey teain, sponsored by the Brooklin Lions Club, travelled to Peterborough on Saturday, Nov. 19 and had a win and two basses in the Warsaw teurnament. In the first gaine, Wildcats came out fiying and bombed Etebicoke 6-3. Dami Axnurawaiye scored two goals, singles te Tommy Ricica, Ryan Farrow, Sean Brackin and Danny Caird, who joined the team from the selecta. Caird was named game most valuable player. In the second game against Chinguacousy, afrer regulation time it was stilI scoreless. TI sudden-death overtime Whitby lost. Bryan Sand was strong in net and received gamne MVP. For' the final game in the B championship, Whitby faced Steuffville. Brackin opened the scoring, Matthew Graham scored in the second, but Witby bast 4-2. Brackin was gaine MVP. In exhibition play, Whitby defeated Goulding Park 3-1. Caird scored ail three goals. In York-Simcoe league action, Wildcats loat 4-3 to arch-rival Barrie. Jason Sledzieswki, Farrow and Brackin scored. Thompson scores 10 for Lords Collinda Thompson of Whitby had 10 points as Durham College defeated Redeemer 65-44 in Ontario college women's basket- ball.
