"An Act to amend the Regional Municipality of Durham Act, the Muncpal Act and the Regional SMnclpalities Act" passed flirst re ading after heing brought forward hy Durham WVest MfPP Jim Wiseman. "I firmly helieve that the chair of our regional council should ho accountable to the people," said Wiseman. "Our current chair was elected to regional council years ago and hasn't had to seek public re-election since.- The current legislation etates that the council "eleet as chair one of the members of' the regional council or any other person, to hold office .. The new bill would remove reference to "any other pereon." "Most people don't understand how thie works," eaid the Durham West MPP.
