Whitby opened play on Saturday morning and lost 4-3 te host Guelph. In their second gaine Saturday afternoon, Whitby picked up their gaine and defeated Hlanover 11-2. In the semi-finals on Sunday moring Whitby defeated Labet' - and advanced te the finals. The final gaine provided the moat exciting match of the tournament as both Whitby and Walkerton exchanged goals throughout the first period and Walkerton led 5-4. Ini the second period, Walkerton puehed their lead to 8-5 with less than four minutes te play. However, Whitby neyer gave up and scored twice te pull within a goal. With the Whitby goalie on the bench for the last 90 seconds of the gaine, Whitby put the gre ssure on the Walkerton net ufailed te get the equalizer. Laura Canmpbell scored three, Jenna Cheesmnan and Jessica Templeman each scored twice, with Kristen Aiphonso scoring one for C2s. Joanne Tellis scored the only goal for Gis. C2s beaten by al-mstars The Whitby novice C2 ringette teaxn, sponsored by Whitby Kinettef, just fell short of their second consecutive teurnament championsuhip when competing in the lSth annual Mariposa tournament over the weekend. The squad bast 9-3 te an aIl-star teain, made up of players from several communities in the Upper Ottawa Valley, in the championship gaine. Whitby qualified for the top honours by hammering the home side Mariposa 13-1, defeating Oro #1 13-0 and then Oro #2, 12-4 te finish the prelimi-nary round with a perfect 3-0 record. In regular season action, Kinettes defeated Whitbys Mr. Transmission Cis 8-1. In the tournament and league gaines, Jennah Cheesman led the attack with 16 goals and eight assista, followed closely by Laura Campbell with 13 goals and two assiste. Other anipers were Kristen Win, loss for bunnies Whitby Moose Lodge junior bunnies had a win and loss at the Bunnyfest hosted by the Whitby association over the weekend. Whitby defeated Oshawa 5-2 on goals by Kaila Janssen, Julie Derks, Krà isty Stanfield, Tonya Cunningham and Katie flott. JessicalTone was solid in net. Ellen Seedhouse had four goals in a 9-7 boss to Markham. Krista Keberer scored twice and Jans- sen had the other goal. Alphonso, five goals and seven assista; Jessica Templeman, five goals and three assiste; Paetra Kaufmnann, two goals and two assists; Danielle Morrison, two goals and one assist; Kelly Matthews, a goal and an assist; Ashley Taylor one goal and one assist, Amy Fallis one goal. Emiby Mountjoy collected three wins in net while also picldng up a single goal when replaced by back-up goaltender Kelly Matthews who also was credited with.a win. Witby defeated Pickering il- 2 and Jordan 3-1 and lost to Forest #1 11-4 and Forest #2 4-2. Chantel Smith had seven goals and an assiat for Whitby Amanda Lilby three goals ancd four assiste, Mykala Abel four goals, Holly Langlois three goals and two assiste, ati arish two goals and three assista. Caitlin Kelly had a goal and two assists, Kessica flott and Ashley Brooker three' assista each. In a lege game on Feb. 4, Lilly scored three goals in an 8-2 win over Mariposa. The defence of Becky Bfrtzu, Tamara Brown, Megan Rodget, Lyndsey Mataumura and Jennifer Scott played well. Forwards Brianna Coombes, Aleya Subeman, Jessica Yan, Sophia Yilmaz, Danielle Dadalt and Lindsey Lilly had 'a productive teurnainent, scoring 32 goals in four gaines. Petites The Whitby petite B ringette teain, sponsored by Mitchell Brothers Building Supplies, trounced Ajax 7-2 on Sunday Liza Henry Emily Difrscia and Julia Mitchell each scored twice, Katie MacDonald had the other.
