along giaara River The Niagara River Recreation Trail runs, parallel to the Niagara River on the Canadian side between Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie. It began in 1986...when Niagara Parks Commission chair Pamela Verrili Walker gained unanimous suLppoprt of the Commissioners of the Nigaa Parks Commission .to build this 56-kilometre (35-mile) scenic paved path beside the Niagara River. Today there are nine bridges closing the gaps over creeke and tying this trail from e'ort George in the north to Fort Erie in the south. The trail was designed, built and today is maintained by the Niagara Parks Commi*ssion, a selffunding agencçy of the Ontario government. It is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the beauqty of the lands adjacent to the Niagara River for the enjoyment of its visitors. For those who wish to savour eachsegment, the trail divides itself nicely into four scenic sections, each with, its own history and h hi adventure set amidst sorne of the loveliest countryside to be found aniywhere. It takes approximately one to two hours to pedal leisurely each of these sections: (1) Niagara-on-theS.iake to Queenston; (2) Queenston to the Spanish Aero Car; (3) Chippawa to Black Creek; (4) Black Creek to Fort Erie.
