While admitting that "everybody Steel strike over FROM PAGE 1 some of the business back that we iost," ho said. Wilson deciined to indicate the extent of the company's losses since the strike began June 26, but said it was of sufficient magnitude to prompt the iayoff of between "15 to 18 people." Wilson did not have specific details of the three-year agreement immediately available and a representative of the United Steeiworkers of America could not be reached for comment. However, reports published elsewhere state that the contract provides for benefit improvements in the flrst year, boosts wages by 25 cents an hour in the second year and by another 40 cents in the third. Under the previous agreement that expired June 1, workers earned between $16.07 and $16.47 an hour. Only a week earlier, the membership rejected managment's offer of 20 cents, 25 cents and 40 cents an hour respectively, over three years, plus improvements ini Don'tMss This Great Buy!ý IPC CD/FX-560 * Intel Penlumw60fMliprocessor * 4 PCf local bus siots *8MB RAM, 256K cache *530MB high speed hard drive *3.5" high density floppy dive *Double speed CD ROM *Dual amptifled speakers *16-bit sound card *1MB PCI S VGA video card " MS mouse and mouse pad " MS DOS 6.22 pre-loaded " Windows for Workgroups 3. 11 pre-loaded " 14" .28DP SVGA monitor " Three year parts & labour warranty " First year on-site service atSeven Microsoft software lties N1K«)sI INetWare Wl N )()WSTested and RI 19 i \ Approved Computer hPerformance Center iE Hwy. 2 25 Thickson Road. RSP Often when *I sit down with investors I arn surprised to find that these people have zero per cent foreign content witin their RSPs. In fact, xnany people are unaware that they can hold up to 20 per cent of the book value of their RSPs in such miarkets as the U.S., Europe and the Far East. So why ail the hubbub about foreign content? Well, there areý two big benefits to maximizing the ,foreign content within your retirement plan. One of those bene- fits is that you can take advantage of higher growth markets. Historically the U.S., Europe and the Pacific Rim equity mnarkets (to name just a few) have significantly outperformed the Canadian equity markets. This means that exposure to these markets in your RSP can si.gn fficantly boîster your overal returns, making you a lot more money than the Canadian mnarkets, thus potentially making for, a more comfortab le retirenient. Benefit number two is diversification. By maximizing your ýforeign content within your RSP, you are moving 20 per cent of your investment into the international markets. This process relieves you from total exposure tothde Canadian market, and exposure to our political and econonie cycles. Astute investors un derstand that diversification reduce s risk, but in this case diversifying into international markets also could significantly increase returns. Furthermore, by selecting an RSP eligible investment fund that maximizes the 20 per cent foreign content within its own, portfolio, it is possible that you could legitimately hold 36 per cent of your RSP in foreign investments.
