On Thursday, accompanied by members of the Save Lynde Marali (SLM) citizens' group, Emm waiked the area where most of the trees were feiled and was clearly outraged. "It was hard te tell, but we counted 16 major trees at the north end immediately south of Victoria (Street)," said Emm. 'Thére-were another 10 healthy ones that probably could have remained. Thoy did relocate some emailer trees, but' I don't know where they were put." Edwards explained that the developer met ail three of the Town's requirements. 'They needed approved plana of subdivision, which they have," ho said. "They needed a tres preservation plan, which they had, and they needed permission from the director of public works." In order toobtainthe latter. the developer also had te show proof of liability- insurance and post a lotter of credit, Edwards added. L-ongfield thon dofended her support of subsequent matters relating te the development such as the onvironniontal management plan, open space master Plan and site plan. "That wasn't what was before us. They had evory riglit te dovelop," ch. said. "To vote againet a site plan woulcl have been political grandstandîné. The land use deagnation had beon decidod and it was time te move on." Longfield sa$d coundil trieci te got the "bout deal possible" from the Rose so, th4t the marsh would lie protected. "If wo had opposod it just te oppose, I was afr-aid it would go te. the 0MB (Ontario Municipal Board) and they would lie ailowed te develop it te, the maimum."
