Douglas Maundrell was born at Brechin, ON on 11 May 1911 and moved to Whitby when his father, Frederick Maundrell, opened a hardware store on Brock St. S. He was a noted athlete and helped the Whitby High School win the district track meets for a number of years. In 1930, he participated in the first British Empire Games at Hamilton.

Maundrell was president of the Whitby Minor Hockey Association and the Whitby Figure Skating Club in the 1950s. He was employed at General Motors in Oshawa and later at Dowty Equipment Ltd. in Ajax. He retired as an employee of the Ontario County Land Registry Office at Whitby.

From 1954 to 1961 and 1964 to 1967, Maundrell was a member of the Whitby Public School Board. He died at Whitby on 18 June 1974 and is buried at Mount Lawn Cemetery.
