F iremen receive 10 per. cent By MICHAEL KNELL Free Press Staff Whitby firefighters have reached an agreement with the town that gives them a 10.5 per cent increase in salary in 1980. According to the town's clerk-administrator, Bill Wallace, who negotiated the contract with the firemen, the increase wil bring a first class firefighter salary up to $21,700 per year starting on January 1, 1980 and up again to $23,200,per year starting July 1. "This agreement brings the firemen in line with recent arbitration awards," Wallace said. "The town and the association had regard for the numerous arbitration awards that indicated the necessity for a dloser relationship between the salaries of firefighters and police officers. " "The town and the association are pleased they were also able to resolve this year's contract without ' ýbringing iný a third party arbitration board,'" he said. Your questions are answered In this week's issue, the Free Press presents the last segment of its question- naire. The questionnaire may be found on pages 20, 21, 22, and 23 and is composed of questions that are believed to reflect the major issues of the day. Five candidates have par- ticipated in the survey and the answers are presented in alphabetiçal order. The candidates are: Dawn Carreil (Marxist-Leninist); Doug Dickerson (Liberal); Scott Fenneil (Progressive- Conservative); Rolf Posma (Libertarian); and Geof f Rison (New Deniocrat). It is hopeci that the questionnaire has been of some value to the readers as a winter election often poses problems because the elec- tor and the candidate do not have as great a chance to meet.
