Whitby Psychiatrie Hospital has planned a number of activities during this week. To start the week, professional staff from the hospital will discuss current treatment approaches and mental health services with students from a local high school. On Wednesday, May 7, chaplains from all over the Durham Region and Toronto will attend a worship service and dinner in honor of the 3th anniversary of fuil-time chaplaincy at the hospital. Professiôàfals concerned with the care of the aged are invited to an open house on the psychogeriatric unit of the hospital on May B. A volunteer appreciation af ternoon completes the week on Friday>, May 9. The volunteer association and the staff of Whitby Psychiatrie Hospital wish to honor their many teenage volunteers, notable from the Eastdale Collegiate in Oshawa and Henry Street High School in Whitby, who participate in a numer of programs at the hospital. Displays, brochures and pamphlets describing hospital services are available for public use. Pineridge Cable T.V. (Channel 10) will be presen- ting a series of programs throughout the week. Programs feqturing mental health services by the hospital include a film on psychiatrie hospitals in On- tario; the commwiity ser- vices unit at the hospital; a programl on psychlat.ric care for the retarded; recreatiofi and mental health; psychiatrie care for the elderly and a feature on volunteers. David Robinson, a student at Whitby's Henry Street High School and a participant in this year's Youth and Civic Administration Program is given an opportunity to test out the Whitby Fire Department's 100 Foot ladder truck. The Youth and Civic Admini stration Program, sponsored by the Town of Whitby, provides an opportunity for high school students in the area to learn about local government municipal structure. In celebration of the Whitby's 125th Anniversary, the students will be organizing and performing a mock council meeting with the issues and roles of each person per- taining to 1855.
