SPRING LUNCHEON The St. Mark's United Church Women will hold a spring luncheon in the chur- ch's assembly hall on Centre Street South on Tuesday, May 27 at 1 p.m. The guest speaker will be renowned Canadian poetess Mary Francis Haws. The sale will feature a home bake table. All proceeds from the sale will be used for outreach work in Northern Ontario and in Central Africa and the Caribbean. FIREWORKS DISPLAY The Whitby Fire Depar- tment will hold their annual fireworks display on Mon- day, May 19 (Victoria Day) at the Brooklin Park begin- ning at dusk. The firefighters will be passing the boot to help defray the rapidly rising cost of the display - all donations are gratefully ac- cepted. FILM NIGHTS The Whitby Public Library holds its weekly film night every Tuesday at 7 p.m. throughout the month of May. On May 13 "Mandy's Grandmother" will be presented. DRAMA WORKSHOP The Whitby Public Library will sponsor a drama workshop for young people between the ages of 11 and 15 on May 31 between 1-4 p.m. The workshop will be con- ducted by Joel Kaiser, a drama instructor at the University of Waterloo and will introduce the par- ticipants to acting in the practical sense and the dif- ferent areas and stages of an actor's work. The program will include both vocal and physical exercises to stimulate imagination and concen- tration as well as a study of make-up and costumes. Registration will be taken for 25 people only. Concert introduces new dire ctor Russell Baid, the new director of the County Town singers, Liola Limeback, show chair- man, and Margaret Webber, the accomanist are seen discuasing final plans for the up- coming 13th annual County Town Singers' Spring Concert called "Happiness Is." The concerts are to be held at Anderson Collegiate on May 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 for adults and $1.50 for children 12 years old and under and for senior citizens.
