GREENAWAY Free Press Staff Even the challenge of 18 hours of work a day and Uic last minute difficulties which faced Dr. Lloyd Whiteway and bis family of staff members .could not stop Iheir moment of glory in the long run. The Stardusî Theatre opened last Thursday night for tbe first Urne before an apprecialive packed bouse of guests and digntaries. The downstaris dinning room was tastfully made up providîng a relaxing at- mosphere for the eating pleasure of Ibose gatbered. TbIoughout the time spent downstaris Jeff Morgan, a local youtb, provided a musical background on piano. Once? dinner was com- pleted patrons made their way upstairs to Uie theatre section of the establishmnent. The theatre seats 150 people in comfortable seats that once rested in the Jackie Gleason theatre in Miamni Beach, Florida. The first play to run at the Starclust is Joe Ortons "iWhat Uhc Butler Saw" a hilarious British comedy whicb takes place in a doc- tors office at an asylumn for the insane. As with most British comedys Ibis one has unmistakable sexual under- tones wbich enhance the play and wbat is taking place rather than distract from it, whicb is so sadly the case in many shows today. Dr. Prentice, played by Murray Ellis, makes the mistake of trying to seduce a prospective employee Geraldine Barclay, played by Louise Cranfield, during the course of an Interview. Witb the naked woman behind an examining screen Prenice's wife, played by Marg Doig enters unexpec- tantly claiming that an at- tendant at a hotel had tried bo rape her and in the process she had lost her dress. Taking Barclay's dress, mistakenly thinking it tb be hers, Mrs. Prentice informs ber husband that Uic youtb, played by Terrance Bryant,, bad also taken pictures and was blackmailing her for a Onto this scene Dr. Rance, played by Brian Sexmlth, appears to observe t.he run- ning of the asyluni in order to file a report on the operation. Add to this Sergeant Mat- ch, played by Chris Barry, who is looking for the missing parts of a statue'0f Sir Winston Churchill which mysteriously disappeared and for the youtb who at- tempted to moleat several school children the nigh' before in the same hotel as Mrs. Prentice's incident anr you have a host of dmsap- pearing personalities, semi nude f igures runnlng about the stage looking for their original appareil, murder and, unbelievably, a happy ending which climaxes in classic soap opera comedy fashion. The Stardust bas brought to town an aspect of enter- tainment which had been sadly Iacking.
