Neither the manager of the Odeon and ýHyland or the Oshawa Centre Cinemas have let us in on just what to expeet yet, other than to wet our appetities by saying there are some real goodies on the way. Disney studios are already thumping the tub for a new feature cartoon that wilI be released yery shortly. It has dogs and the kind of things that ail children like. We are expecting changes this week at the Hyland in Oshawa where a double feature has been playing for the past week, so check the ad on this page in case they have been moved out. Hangar 18 was also another doubtfil.. It has been playing at the Odeon in Oshawa for .the past two weeks. At the Oshawa Centre Cinemas, Goldie Hawn has been bringing them in to see Private Benjamin, a movie that has told millions of fans that she is more than a cute face and just another dumb blond. The Elephant Man while describe by many fans as in- teresting, but depressing, has had good audiences. This movie has drawn a lot of attention since stories have been appearing in the papers about people In Canada and the United States who have been afflic- ted with this terrible disease that literally deforms a per- son's features and can turn a fact into a horrible grotesque mask. Her body was taken to New York this week where she was buried beside her parents and her brother. Mae West has been described as being the most misquoted actress in the history of Hollywood, but it neyer seemed to bother her very much. She and the late W.C. Fields made, a great team in the movies they did together. Compared to today's movie language, she sounded like a Sunday school teacher, but in the days of her movies, her suggestive comments raised the eyebrows of millions. We all know now who shot J.R. on the Dallas television series, and an estimnated 75 million watched last Friday night to- find out who did it. This was the most publicized show in the history of telev- ision and apparently there is a lot more to corne yet. They won't let go of a good thing like this in a hurry. Heven's Gate was pulled from movie houses in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto last week after United Artists found dozens were walking out because the story was too tedious to watch. Editing will be done and the producer is hopeful that it wil make its ap- pearance again by February. Awar&d winners The Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) has announced the winners of their plaque design com- petition. The committee judged the entries of the contestants -on November 19. First prize was awarded to Neil Wick, of Brooklin who is a student of the Durham College Applied Arts and technology in Oshawa. Wick 18 formerly a student of An- derson Collegiate, Whitby. The second prize went to >Rob Peltenburg of 406 Lupin Drive while thrid place,.went to Anita Gerlsbeck of 40 Harrison Court. The winners of the com- petition wil be presented with their prizes at the December 15 meeting of Whitby Town Council. Raggedy Ann Children's musical play about RAGGEDY ANN, written by Rene and Marie Aloma, is to be presented by Ajax Lyric Theatre at Ajax High School beginning Friday, December 5 through Sunday, December 14.
