PAGE'i 12, WEDNESDAY. 1)ECENIBER 3, 1980, WIIITBY FREE PRESS SP3OR TS YMCA club host "B" tournament Whitby's Erwin Winkler and Kevin Gardiner won the men 's doubles consolation prize last weekend when the Whitby YMCA Badminton Club hosted the Central On- tario Badmidnton Association "B" Tournament at Henry Street igh Sehool. Winkler and Gardiner defeated Wayne Milligan and Gary Creighton of Naponee 15-11 and 15-6 to win. Badminton Club president David Hunt 'and Pam Cachart were runners up in the mlxed doubles con- solation losing to Don and Shelagh Smith of Sydenhami 17-14 and 15-12. In all 16 members of the Whitby YMCA Badminton Club competed in the two day tournament._ Events included men's and ladies singles, men's and ladies doubles and mixed doubles. There were 92 com- petators representing 12 clubs entered in the "B" class tournament. Two rounds of competition were played with ail those losing their first match of the main event were later assigned to the consolation round. Ail winners and runners- up in both the main and con- solation events were awar- ded prizes. Kathy Mooney and*Helen Thonmas of Kingston placed firat in the Ladies doubles main event while team- mates Chris Dorey and Rod Little won the Men's doubles main event.., Mooney and Dorey later teamed up to win -the mixed doubles main event in three sets. The ladies' singles event was taken by Linda Boot of Peterborough who defeated Kathy Hogarth of Oshawa 11-3 and 11-5. Durham Badminton Club's Grant Kerry defeated team mate Mark Foley 15-5, 13-15, and 15-8 to win the men's singlesmain event.
