There are several rooms, and some of the eating areas areas are at elevated levels. As it hap- pened, we were seated at a table where we could look down on the tables below. Mirrors and potted tropical plants give the illusion of depth and privacy for the diners. The ighting is soft, the chairs are high-backed and comfortable. It is pleasant even before you start eating. We were greeted at the door by Romero Santos, the Maitre D' and after being escorted to a table, told us we would be looked af ter by him personally. Romero suggested a red wine of Italian vintage that was very acceptable to the taste buds. This was followed by tossed salad, rolîs and garlic bread and plen ty of time to. enjoy it before the main course was served. Joy had shrimps "scam- pi" a touch of the Italian style seasoned in butter and served on rice. She thoroughly enjoyed the whole plate. El Stavros is owned by Tony Tzalis and Steve Givellas and opened on March 1, 1979. Unfor- tunately on that date, Tony was i11 and Steve had back trouble and neither of them were on hand. Romero had to handie the official opening. The restaurant handies up to 100 pe.ople, has several rooms, and 12 small lounges. About 16 persons are em- ployed here. They will close early Christmas Eve and be closed on Christmas day. From Wednesday through Saturday you can enjoy the music of Jim Paris on the organ andý vibrophones. There is a small dance floor for those wishing a little exercise after a delightful meal. The restaurant specializes in steaks and sea foods, but has also won a reputation for superb back spare ribs at a very rnoderate price. A salad bar is also included with the businessman's lun- cheon and with certain din- ners at the evening hour. Not only did Romero sit down and chat with us, but Steve, -one of the owners, also met us and made us feel very much a t home. All in alI, it was a very pleasant evening, good food, excellent service and served at a very reasonable price. The Free Press dining page can recommend El Stavros to anyone who wants a special dining treat, in a very special atmosphere, and at a price that most people can still afford.
