WIIITBY FREE PRESS, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1980, PAGE 9 The Church Speaks By PASTOR STEPHEN THOMSPON Meadowcrest Baptist Church, Brooklin In an examination of the narnes ascribed to God the Father and God the Son in the Bible, you receive by that study a beautiful insight into the characteristics and mystery of God. We find majesty in the name God and personality in the name Jehovah. We see power in the name Lord and unction in the name Christ. We see intercession in the term Mediator and help in the titie Advocate. And in the name Emmanuel we see one of the most beautiful names of human experience; a name that breathes music in every syllable and emphasizes relationship or affinity. In the revelation of the birth of Christ at the first Christ- mas, the angelic message in Matthew 1: 23, was "Behold the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and you shal caîl his name Emmanuel, which translated means, God With Us." Look first at the nature of Emmanuel. He is God with us, which is a beautiful characterization of Jesus' nature. This name which was given is an intimation of the mysterious union of the divine and the human in the virign's Son. Jesus Christ was a man. In Isaiah 9:6, He was the Child that was born. In Galatians 4:4, He was born of a woman. In John 1: 14, He was the Word that became human flesh. But Jesus Christ is also God. He was the express image of the in- visible God. In Galatians 4:4 Jesus was the Son whom God sent forth into this world. The eternal God to be truly the eterani Father had to have an eternal Son. R.G. Lee stated, "Christmas is the joyous celebration 0f eternity's intersec- tion with time". Lord Bryon said, "If ever man was God or God was Jesus was both". Emmanuel, Jesus Christ, was God* dwelling with us in space and time. See the necessity 0f Emmanuel. Fathom the riches of God's grace, whereby God sent His Son to dwell with sinful men. But why? Because of the character of man. Jesus Christ is God with the sick to give them comfort. He is God with the poor in spirit to bless them. He is God with those full of anxiety to rid themn of it. He is God with the hungry to feed them. He is God with the lost to seek and save them. A charge of theft over $200 was withdraw against Darlington and a charge of possession of a narcotic was remanded against Morrison. DIAL- N- INSPIRATION minute inspirational message by Pastor EMMO Oltmanns of the Emmanuelchurch at D. THAPAR Denture Therapist 214 Dundas St. E, Whitby 668-7797 HOURS: Mon. - Sut.& Evenings By Appointment OnIy Emm anuel- God with us The story of Christmas is that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with us, "to save his people fromn their sins" (Matthew 1:21). God condescended to meet the need of mankind. Consider the nearness of God in the name Emmanuel. Jesus Christ is God with us. God has revealed Himself in diversified and extraordinary ways in days pâist. He was in the fiaming sword at the gate in Eden. He was in the burning bush in the heart of the desert. He was in the thunder and lightning at Mount 5mnai. He was the pillar of fîre and cloud in the wilderness. These revelations of God are no longer needed, for God is with us at ail Urnes. Christ has brdiged the guif between a holy God and a sinful man, opening the way for man to corne into relationship with God. Jesus Christ came to be our Emmanuel. He came to be the personal Saviour of individuals who would receive Him by faith. Christ is the meaning of Christmas. He is Emmanuel, God with us. Whether you believe Him or receive Him does not change His nature, for He is human, yet divine. It dôes not change His necessity for our need is great today. It does not change His nearness, for Jesus Christ is God dwelling with us. PHOTOFINISHING OFFER WHAT WOULD HOLIDAYS BE WITHOUT PHOTOS 0F ALL THOSE GOOD TIMES WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
