WOW !!! I live in Ottawa....and came across the history and two articles about a man by the name of FRED CHUBB. I read on and all of a sudden - I almost fell off my chair !!!! I was raised in Pickering from 1950 until 1959....live with my Father - Joseph LAHAY and his brother WILFRED and his Sister - Pauline. My Grand Father also lived there and his name was LOUIS JOSEPH LAHAY - owner of Delhi Timagami Gold Mines in the late 40's and 50's. I remember clearly, that my Dad Joe - took me on a drive east of the small town then of Pickering on Highway 2. We turned RIGHT and went up a long drive way.....stopped at this large stone house and my Dad met and talked with a man....later introduced to me as Mr. Chubb. I remember my Dad telling me that this was the Fred Chubb who discovered the Chubb crater in(???) the north..... My entire family use to visit Temagami the small town - and we flew into Lahay Lake about an hour west of the town. I can just barely remember seeing the old shack there and saw many pieces of gold and other minerals....as a kid they did not mean much to me....but in 2012 - I went back and rented a plane to fly into Lahay Lake again....BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES.....and later in life I learned to fly a float plane and still am licenced..... LONG AGO - this slender man with a mustache was the famous Fred Chubb. We stayed at his place which I guess is now (???) Ajax.....and we returned home later in the afternoon. HOW LUCKY I AM to have met him.. I went on to work with the OPP, radio station here in Ottawa as an electronics engineer....a veterinarian tech, Federal Gov't employee until I retired in 2007. Would LOVE to hear what happened to Fred and probably like my Dad Joe - passed away at some point. Anyone having any information....let me know please....Rod Lahay in Ottawa at (6130 596-1593....or at the above email......MEMORIES are what life is made of.....this one was MANY from the Lahay family who left R.R. 2 Concession Road 2 in Pickering off Altona Road and moved to Minden to own a hotel when the entire Lahay family became too old to prospect !!! Thanks for reading !!!
