On the evening of May 7th, 1945, V. E. Day, there was a special church and prayer service of Thanksgiving conducted by Rev. P.L. Jull, assisted by Rev. Stokes, in the United Church. The day following was a holiday for everyone. V. J. Day, August 14, 1945, was observed by special Sunday service, when the suggested order of service in printed form was used. The pastors in each Church followed this form of service. When several boys had come home there was a special Sunday evening Church service for the returned men, and their families. Mr. Jull conducted the entire service. After the service a social hour with refreshments was spent. Later when the last boys coming home had arrived, another service was arranged with Col. Murray Johnston as Guest Speaker, followed by a social hour with refreshments. Now in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice and those who offered their best, there is to be built a Memorial Arena at a cost of $20,000. at Brooklin Community Park.
