Council asks school board to add Steve Cosgrove to list of names being considered PARVANEH PESSIAN ppessian@durhamregion.com BROOKLIN -- When war veteran Steve Cosgrove started speaking to students in Brooklin back in the 1970s about the importance of Remembrance Day, there was just one school in the area. As the community grew, Mr. Cosgrove made sure to visit each new school that was added to spread his message to as many kids as possible. "They watch a lot of TV and they think the war is like TV so I used to try to put them straight that it was no fun; it was serious stuff," said Mr. Cosgrove, 87, who joined the army in 1944 at the age of 18 and served in the Second World War. As a longtime member of the Brooklin branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, he said his goal was always to educate young people about the realities of war. What's in a name?
