2 Friday, April 12, 2019 brooklintowncrier.com Brooklin Mom To Run Boston Marathon In Support of Down Syndrome Amanda Sirois will run the 123rd Boston Marathon in support of Down syndrome and Special Olympics on Monday, April 15. Inspired by her eight year old daughter Moira who has Down's, Amanda will run the marathon, one of the toughest races to qualify for. She qualified for it in November, 2017, during National Down Syndrome Awareness Week. With a goal of raising $3,210, donations will be shared among the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, the Durham Down Syndrome Association and Special Olympics. Proceeds will go directly to providing services and support to community families with Down syndrome. "Like many individuals with Down syndrome, Moira has to work harder to achieve skills and milestones that come naturally to most other typical kids," says Sirois. "I figure that if I can ask her to work as hard as she does to reach her goals, I should challenge myself to a similar standard. This is why I set myself a goal to quality for and run the prestigious Boston Marathon. This is also why I want to celebrate my goal by giving back to causes that help kids like Moira achieve their own special goals." Sirois will wear bib #13207 if you wish to follow her progress on race day. Supporters are asked to post words of encouragement while sharing photos of yourself wearing blue and yellow, or with painted blue and yellow nails, in support of Down syndrome awareness.
