A Pandemic Christmas
The year 2020 will go down in history,
Such changes we’ve seen, the future’s a mystery,
It started in China with a wee small bat
And quickly spread over the world map.
Put a mask on your face if you care,
Don’t shake a hand, don’t you dare,
Bump an elbow for a greeting
And social distance when you’re meeting.
Stay at home and don’t you roam,
Use social media so you won’t be alone,
Online shopping is the way to go
And currency is outdated as you’ll soon know.
Staff are encouraged to work from home,
While big city buildings sit stark and alone,
And expensive condos can now be exchanged
As a home in the burbs can now be arranged,
With mortgage rates at an all-time low
And daily commutes not a problem you know.
When theatres and cinemas shut down their doors
The Met went online with its operatic scores,
No Buckhorn Art Festival for me this year
And no trip to Curve Lake that was always so dear,
An Indigenous Canada course took its place
And I studied and marvelled at this great race.
I gave thanks at Thanksgiving for family and friends,
Now Christmas is right around the bend,
My home will be festive, my window a sight
And Christmas movies and books will be my delight.
Good wishes are all that I need this year,
Stay healthy and happy and be of good cheer,
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night,
A vaccines on the way and the New Year looks bright.
God Bless Us, Everyone!
Mary
