JUST THE FACTS Two warehouses are being built at the southwest corner of Garrard and Conlin roads in north Whitby. The site covers 14.91 hectares (36.85 acres). The buildings have a combined floor space of 71,535 square metres (770,000 square feet). One of the buildings will cover 59,922 sq. m. (645,000ft.), while the second building will be 11,613 sq. m. (125,000 sq. ft.). Broccolini Construction is erecting the buildings. The Town of Whitby rezoned the lands from Agricultural to General Industrial in early 2020. A Sikorsky helicopter lifted large HVAC units to the roof of a new warehouse at Conlin and Garrard roads in Whitby on Jan. 29. A Durham police officer faces charges including importing and possessing restricted weapons after a search of his Oshawa home. The officer was off duty when he was arrested by members of the Professional Standards Unit Feb. 1, Durham police said Thursday. Feb. 3. The investigation resulted in the seizure of three prohibited guns and "multiple prohibited devices." The charges arise from a joint investigation by Durham police and the Provin- cial Weapons Enforcement Unit. Police did not provide details on weapons or prohibited devices seized. Kenneth Boone, 45, of Oshawa, faces 13 firearms-related charges including importing and possession of a restricted or prohibited device and careless storage of a firearm. Boone has been an officer with Durham since 2003 and was most recently assigned to the traffic services branch. He will be assigned to administrative duties as he awaits the outcome of his charges, police said. DURHAM OFFICER CHARGED AFTER SEIZURE OF PROHIBITED GUNS JEFF MITCHELL jmitchell@durhamregion.com NEWS A Whitby man faces charges after an investigation by police in Windsor led to the seizure of a loaded gun and drugs including cocaine and methamphetamine. The investigation into suspected trafficking began last October and concluded Jan. 20 when officers stopped and searched a suspect vehicle, police said.
