SUPERINTENDENT (Water/Sewer/Drainage) Knowledge in all aspects of civil construction, asphalt paving, road building, and water & sewer servicing are essential. The Ideal candidate will have strong communication, team work skills and construction industry experience. Responsibilities: • Review specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and details of projects. Plan, schedule, and direct crews within the budget and timeline assigned. Provide leadership and training to General Foreman, Foreman and other field staff. Report project progression to the General Manager, Construction and Project Managers. Evaluate workers abilities. Skills: General knowledge of all site related construction activities. Commitment to delivering results on time. Excellent organizational skills and knowledge of project management, estimating, and cost control skills. Minimum of 5 years of related Superintendent/General Foreman experience. Equipment Operator experience. Ability to read and understand construction drawings and construction contracts. Strong computer skills - MS Excel / Word / Project. 2. CONSTRUCTION SURVEYOR Knowledge in all aspects of construction surveying are essential. The Surveyor will be responsible for the creation of 3D Surfaces, linework and as-built data for layout, payment and estimating purposes. The ability to create machine control surfaces as well as laying out relevant aspects of construction projects is a must. The successful candidate will also have an extensive understanding of both the Trimble Data Collector, and Trimble Total Station usage, along with Trimble's Business Centre Responsibilities: Maintain and verify provided control tied to our IBSS Control network Maintain accurate survey records and documentation Provide layout for sewer, watermain and road/parking lot construction Manage as built information Ability to perform on screen quantity takeoffs to assist estimating Review and define the project scope and ensure compliance with contract specifications throughout the life of the project Skills: Minimum 3 years' experience in construction surveying industry Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, CAD, Trimble Business Centre, Trimble Earthworks etc.) Trimble GPS (TSC3 & TSC7) and single man total station experience required 3. JUNIOR ESTIMATOR We have an immediate opening for a junior Estimator to join our team and assist the senior estimators in calculating the cost of labour and material that are required for a construction project. Knowledge in all aspects of civil construction, asphalt paving, road building, and water & sewer servicing are an asset. Responsibilities: Review proposals specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and contents of estimate. Perform preliminary and detailed quantity take-off of all labour, equipment and materials required to complete the project Review tenders from sub-contractors and provide recommendations. Assist in preparing final bids Assist in the project management of contracts awarded Skills: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Quantity Surveyor or Civil Engineering is preferred. Minimum of 1 - 3 years of related estimating experience. Strong computer skills - MS Excel / Word / Project and Bid2Win estimating software. 4. LABORATORYTECHNICIAN The lab technician position involves shift work between the Norwood and Havelock labs reporting to the QC Supervisor. The candidate will be responsible for general maintenance/ housekeeping of lab and the safe operation of equipment required to test various hot mix asphalt and aggregates; such as gyratory, sieves, TMD apparatus and ignition furnace. Also, the individual will be working with CCIL certified technicians sampling, preparing and testing various road and hot mix aggregate products. Responsibilities: Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis. Maintain equipment calibration records Testing of all aggregate and granular material produced at the various Drain Bros locations presenting information in comparison to defined specifications Acquiring all samples in the field as required, including truck and stockpile sampling Follow all Quality Control system protocols and report any discrepancies to the supervisor. Perform related duties as assigned by the QC Supervisor Skills: A post-Secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in science related program (Civil, Construction, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) or related lab experience Be able to multi-task as required and work well with others and/or independently The employee is frequently required to sit, climb and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
