OPG has submitted a site plan amendment to the Municipality of Clarington. The plan is to build an approximately 27,000- square-metre (290,625 square feet) three-storey mass-timber structure constructed east of the existing building, according to a recent Clarington e-planning update. The addition and the existing building will become OPG's new corporate campus. The new office will be connected through a shared central atrium, which will become the main entrance to the OPG Clarington campus. The expansion application was submitted along with a site plan application for the land north of Energy Drive, which is proposed as the parking lot for the site. In October 2021, OPG awarded Bird Construction Inc. the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Clarington Corporate Campus and detailed design work began. The site plans for the addition and parking area still need final approval from the municipality. Groundbreaking for the new OPG headquarters is expected this year for the construction of the foundations and supporting parking facilities. In 2023, the building exterior will be constructed, and the interior completed and commissioned into 2024. OPG plans to begin moving employees into the new campus in 2024. The new Clarington headquarters will house all of OPG's non-station staff -- from corporate employees to engineers -- from 15 existing offices across the Greater Toronto Area, Niagara and Durham. It will bring more than 2,000 jobs to the community.
