Karthik Manimaran, 33, was charged in December 2020 after Durham officers with the force's Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed a search warrant at a Whitby home. At that time, claim Durham police, devices containing more than one million media files were seized and analyzed. With help from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, investigators identified 12 child victims, say Durham police. American authorities have located all of the victims and they have been safeguarded, police added. In a February 2021 release announcing the arrest, Durham police alleged the suspect was active throughout 2020 over multiple online applications, including Snapchat, TikTok, Omegle, Likee and KIK Messenger. The screen names he used, say police, included dirtyboy, dirty- boui, Daddy Dirty, Virus Redbeast, Rock Shan Rock and variations of these screen names. Manimaran was initially charged in 2021 with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and distribution of child pornography. As of Feb. 16, 2022, he has been further charged with luring, making child pornography, making sexually explicit material available to a child, extortion, uttering threats, criminal harassment and voyeurism.
