There are no words to describe how much he was loved and how much he will be missed. He was born on the 12th of November 1927, on his grandparent's farm in Kendal. On the day of his birth his parents James and Arleay (Cochrane) Boyd bought the farm in Kirby which is still owned by family today. He attended public school in Kirby and graduated high school in Orono. He worked for a short time in Toronto but settled on a job in GM, Oshawa and through all that time he worked on the family farm. He married Carole Cornish in 1953 in the Orono United Church. Laverne, Carole and the family lived in the village of Orono for fifteen years before Carole and he built their home on Best Rd. They have lived there for over fifty years. Laverne was the second oldest of eight children. They were a close-knit family getting together for birthdays, anniversaries and the occasional coffee just to chat (dessert was always on the table). Every summer the Boyd siblings and their families got together on the lawn in front of the old farmhouse for the Boyd Picnic. There were games and hayrides for the children and horseshoes for the adults. For almost 40 years he kept the farm going so that all the generations of the Boyd family could enjoy what it had to offer. Laverne was a longstanding member on the Orono Arena Board, of the Orono Athletic Association and supported local community activities such as the Arena Fundraising Meals at the Orono Fair and the beef barbecue fundraiser in the park to name a few. Loving husband to Carole (Cornish) his wife of almost 69 years; wonderful father to Steve Boyd (Lynda) and Diane Dwyer; cherished grandfather of Aliesha Dawn Hermann (Paul), Dan Boyd (Melissa), Mike Boyd (Allison), Ashley Dwyer and Jenny Boyd (Jason); and adored great- grandfather of Jacob, Ellery, Camden, Ben, Kyle, Evan and Samuel. He is survived by his siblings Marv Bird (Ted, deceased), John Boyd (Grace, deceased), Neil Boyd (Norma), and sister-in-law Peg Boyd. He is predeceased by his siblings Bill Boyd and his wife Pauline (Robbins), Ross Boyd (Peg), Arlene Stephenson (Bob), Marion Brooks (Ervin) and brother-in-law Alan Cornish (Dorothy), sister-in-law Joyce Simpson (Gord), and sister-in- law Shirley Cornish. Laverne was a remarkable man, quiet by nature, loyal and thoughtful, respected by his family, siblings and friends. He always had time for his grandchildren and great-grand- children, whether it was to help them or play with them. He was an inspiration to his family on how to be a loving, caring father, grandfather and great- grandfather. His legacy is his family and the memories we were able to share with him throughout the years. He will always be remembered with love. He was the best Poppy anyone could ever have. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff on 2E at Bowmanville Hospital, especially Dr. Williams and nurses - Tracy and Robin, for their care and compassion. A memorial visitation will take place at Morris Funeral Chapel, 4 Division St Bowmanville, ON L1C 2Z1. Phone: 905-623-5480 on Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a the Service. Honourable and true in all your ways, loving and faithful to the end of your days, honest and liberal, ever upright, just in your judgment, always right; loved by your friends and all whom you knew, one in a million, that person was you. One year has passed, our hearts still sore, as time rolls on we miss you more; a loving person, tender and kind, what beautiful memories you left behind. And have you gone, forever gone and left us here to weep. Till we are called to follow you, and in the grave to sleep; yet since you could no longer stay to cheer us with your love, we hope to meet with you again in the bright world above.
