If so, nominate them for the 2023 Mayor's Senior Volunteer Award by March 10, 2023. This annual award recognizes seniors in Whitby who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to volunteering in the community. To qualify, the nominee must be a current resident of Whitby, 55 years of age or older, and have volunteered their time in some capacity in the community. The nominations are judged based on the number of organizations the nominee volunteers with, their volunteer work, and how many years they have been volunteering. Last year's winner, Norman Howe, said he is motivated to make a difference in his community because he enjoys "being with other people and helping out where I can. The work I've been doing keeps me active, and I enjoy meeting new people." The award is part of the Town's efforts to build an active, engaged, and connected community. Mayor Elizabeth Roy will acknowledge all nominees and announce the Mayor's Senior Volunteer Award recipient at a ceremony in April.
