She was at Oshawa General Hospital, surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Wayne Thomas, her children Erin (Aaron Vegh) and Mike (Nancy Thomas), her grandchildren Lynn, Madeline, Brooke and Julia, and countless other family and friends. Sue is survived by her siblings Robert (Betty), Nancy (Joseph) and Joanne. Sue had a long career as a medical laboratory technologist, working locally at Ajax Pickering Hospital. She took great pride in her work and never stopped learning. She will be remembered as a kind, generous person who smiled with her whole face and loved with her whole heart. A visitation and service will be held on September 22, at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home 5295 Thickson Rd. N Whitby from 1:00 p.m. until time of celebration of life in the Barnes Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Thursday. Born in Smith Township, Doris was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, parents Bruce and Olive Bell and siblings Norman Bell, Amy Bell, Burritt Bell and Evelyn Fowler (Wallace). Beloved mother to Brian and Andrew, Doris was Aunt to Helen Davidson (Douglas), Earl Fowler (Kerry) and many great nieces and nephews. Retiring from Lakeridge Health (Oshawa), Doris became an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and enjoyed travel across Canada and abroad, sharing many of those travels with her sister Amy. Prior to being employed with Lakeridge Health (Oshawa), Doris enjoyed many years as a volunteer with the Oshawa General Hospital Auxiliary serving in many roles including the Auxiliary President, and later participating in the introduction of the Palliative Care Unit at the Oshawa General Hospital. In honor of her volunteer service, she was granted lifetime membership to the Hospital Auxiliary Association of Ontario on November 29, 1982. The family would like to extend deep thanks and gratitude to Dr. Becca Webster and the Palliative Care Unit Staff at PRHC. for their care, compassion, dedication throughout this journey over the past year; and for allowing us to be part of their hospital unit family in the final months. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life and interment will be held at a later date. She fought until the very end like the warrior she was. We will miss her loving nature, quick wit and infectious laugh, her kindness and forgiveness but most of all, her beautiful smile.
