VAN DEN HOVEN, ANNA APOLONIA (NEE VERMEULEN) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Passed away at Scarborough Centenary Hospital on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of the late Leonardus "Leo" van den Hoven. Loving mother of John (Marissa), Leon (Judy), Neil (the late Kelley) and Jacqueline. Cherished Oma to Kristen, Daniel, Kurtis and Spencer. Our Mom was 4 when WWII started. She and her sister would huddle under the bed when V2 rockets were flying overhead. Her mother died when she was 14 so she had to run the household. Mom moved in with her aunt at 17 after her father remarried. She worked in the office at Vroom & Dreesmann, earning the equivalent of a CA going to school while working. She immigrated to Canada on the SS Groote Beer in 1959. By 1966 she was married with 4 children under the age of 6 and went deaf. Despite some hardships, she prospered here in Canada raising her 4 children and later enjoying her 4 grandchildren as their Oma. She was the pillar of our family and will be greatly missed. Paul is survived by his loving wife Lynda MacDonald (Lane), his sister Donna (Mark Burch), brothers-in-law Don Lane (Sandra) and Bob Lane (Mavis), many cousins as well as many devoted golfing buddies (too numerous to mention by name). He was predeceased by his parents Donald Alexander MacDonald and Bernice Conville MacDonald (Whittaker) of Oshawa. Paul's endeavours varied greatly including TV repairman, self-styled home renovator, pilot, General Motors Auditor, and golf rules consultant during his retirement years. Although having a little less than average life span, Paul did not live an average life. He travelled afar to places like Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Egypt, Peru, Fiji just to name a few, laughed often (occasionally inappropriately), had a wickedly dry sense of humour, and swore he never cheated at golf (unlike his grandfather who actually did). Paul died knowing that Jimi Hendrix was the best musician ever, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail was the best movie. Following a private burial there will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 6th from 1:00 to 4:00. The celebration will be held at Royal Ashburn Golf Club (995 Myrtle Rd W, Ashburn). Regarding the celebration... anyone wearing black will not be allowed in, but a Hawaiian or golf shirt would be perfect! In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Durham Region or the Salvation Army. OBITUARIES A sweet little flower, nipped in the bud, no grief or sorrow knew; just came to earth to win our love and then to Heaven withdrew. No stain was on your little heart, sin had not entered there. Your memory is as dear today, as in the hour you passed away. IN MEMORIAM
