The incident began around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 when officers spotted a suspicious vehicle near a car dealership on Consumers Road in Whitby, police said. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and drove onto Hwy. 401 but was later seen by other officers on Brock Road in Pickering. A traffic stop occurred and two suspects fled on foot. With the assistance of a canine unit the suspects were caught after a brief chase. A loaded handgun was found nearby, police said. Anden Alexander, 18, of Whitby, faces charges including flight from police and firearms offences. Charged with occupying a vehicle with a firearm is 19-year-old Jesiah Byer-Coates of Ajax. TWO CHARGED AS DURHAM POLICE SEIZE GUN DURING TRAFFIC STOP NEWS A Whitby man faces several charges after a traffic stop in Mississauga led to the seizure of a loaded handgun. The incident began when officers conducting a foot patrol spotted two people smoking marijuana in a car around 10:35 p.m. Sept. 17 in the area of Edwards Boulevard and Derry Road East, according to Peel Region police. During an investigation, police seized a loaded Ruger 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, police said. A man and woman in the car were arrested.
