DOVE, Victoria Patricia August 1, 1946- September 7, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Another Dove has flown to heaven. It is with tremendous tears that we say goodbye to our beautiful Victoria. Victoria left us on September 7, at Lakeridge Health, after a courageous battle with cancer. She had just celebrated her 76th birthday. Proud mother to her beloved late son Kevin, loving daughter Lisa and devoted son in- law, Derek Hughes. Proud dog mother to Jackson. Victoria (Vicki) lived her life with incredible compassion for all living things. She was dedicated to supporting those who needed a helping hand, a safe place, a home, or a sympathetic ear. She was a lifelong advocate for those who needed a voice, whether it be a person or any of God's creations. This passion was evident in her chosen profession of social work, her involvement in various outreach programs in her church, her animal activism, and her countless years of volunteerism in her community. She was fierce in her desire to make a difference and to play a small part in making a positive change in this world. She was an intellect who thoroughly enjoyed learning, writing, reading and world issues. She began her professional career working for Community Living as a support to children with special needs. This was a rewarding and enriching position that she enjoyed very much. She found great pleasure in teamwork and being surrounded by such wonderful individuals. She eventually became a Coordinator in this agency. Victoria then took on a new challenge professionally as the Executive Director of Big Sisters in Oshawa where she furthered her skills in supporting children and gained both a personal and professional fulfillment in helping to match little sisters with a guiding mentor. She later moved on to Cornerstone, a men's hostel, and advocacy agency in Oshawa. Victoria was innately drawn to positions that would serve her community, changing lives for the better. Volunteering became her new focus after retirement. She took great pride and solace in being part of the many outreach programs within St. George's Anglican Church. Her volunteerism also extended for more than 15 years at the Salvation Army in Whitby. This position brought great fulfillment and many enriching long lasting friendships. Victoria's life was full of varied interests and rich with family, friends, and animals. She was a huge baseball fan and loyally followed the Blue Jays! Her generous spirit, warm, unforgettable smile and beautiful soul has left this world a better place. We have all been blessed to have loved her and to have been loved by her. Cherished daughter of the late Harry (Henry) and Angela Dove. Beloved sister to Sharon Dove Curtis and Berkeley Curtis, the late Ronald and Margaret Dove and the late Kenneth and Rose Dove. Endearing Bobbi (grandmother) to Chaz, Trey, Kierra, and Madeleine. Amazing Aunt to Christine, Jeremy, Lindsey, Christopher, Julia, Colin, and Kyle. Gregarious Great Aunt to Shaina, Henri, Samuel, Lucas, Willow, Sophia, Christian and Charlotte. Long-time friends with Virginia Maggs and Mike Boyle, Cindy Arlein, John Bujold, and Godmother to Adrian. Victoria will be sorely missed but will remain in our hearts and remembered always. Cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, in Whitby on Saturday October 8, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, PETA or the charity of your choice in memory of Victoria. OBITUARIES | REMEMBERING THE LIVES OF THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY A sweet little flower, nipped in the bud, no grief or sorrow knew; just came to earth to win our love and then to Heaven withdrew. No stain was on your little heart, sin had not entered there; and innocence slept sweetly on that pale white brow so fair. You were too pure for this cold earth, too beautiful to stay, and so God's holy angel bore our darling one away. Your memory is as dear today, as in the hour you passed away. Time may heal the broken-hearted, time may make the wound less sore; but time will never stop the longing for the loved one gone before. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glint on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.
