Lots of new restaurants, cafés and pubs have opened in Durham this summer -- here are five you might want to check out. T.O.'S KATHI ROLL EATERY AND HOLY SHAKES 1 Warren Ave., Oshawa. This is the second location in Durham for this combo restaurant that's part Indian fusion street food and part gourmet milkshakes. Kathi Roll Eatery has a big menu of Indian fusion creations including kathi rolls, Indian burritos, Punjabi tacos, tikka nachos and tandoori mac and cheese. The fried-chicken waffle sandwich with tandoori sauce is a fan favourite. Kathi Roll Eatery shares its location with Holy Shakes, which has dozens of milkshake options served in retro glass bottles. Popular shakes include Caramel Crunch, Hazelnut Explosion and Oreo Cheesecake. KRAVE PIZZA AND WINGS 850 King St. W., Oshawa. Oshawa's newest pizza spot opened July 1 with a menu of classic pies and unique creations. Specialty pizzas include: the Heated Vegetarian with spicy sauce, green peppers, jalapenos, onion, pineapple and extra cheese; and the Spicy Meatfest with spicy sauce, sausage, meatballs, salami, bacon and extra cheese. The Krave menu also includes wings, salads, garlic bread and cheesy bread. PHILTHY PHILLY'S CHEESESTEAKS AND POUTINERIE 280 Rossland Rd. E., Ajax. This popular cheesesteak brand opened a new restaurant in Ajax in June -- this is the second location in Durham. What's on the menu? Cheesesteaks, obviously, as well as pulled-pork sandwiches,chicken sandwiches, chicken, strips, burgers and salads. There are more than two dozen types of poutine, including Pierogi Poutine, Pizza Poutine, and Breakfast Poutine topped with eggs, steak and bacon. CHACHI'S CHAI BAR 1725 Kingston Rd., Pickering. This unique Indian café opened June 10 serving authentic chai, specialty coffee and desserts plus a menu of Indian-inspired sandwiches, poutines and classic Indian street food. Popular options include the masala fries, samasoa chaat and Buffalo Tandoori Twist sandwich. This is the second location for Chachi's Chai Bar, you can also find one in Scarborough. KSJ MONSTER PUB AND RESTAURANT 89 King St. E., Bowmanville. A new neighbourhood pub with a huge menu that includes breakfast, lunch specials, and pub fare from burgers and nachos to shepherd's pie and fish and chips.
