durhamregion.com | This Week | Thursday, October 13, 2022 | 14 NAME: Victoria Bozinovski OCCUPATION: Commercial real estate broker WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN? I strongly believe in the power of engaged citizens to create and sustain an inclusive, organized, and compassionate community. I am running for town council, because I want to continue to represent your views, and be your trusted voice on council while working toward developing the future for our community, ensuring it continues to align with our community values. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 ISSUES? Supporting local business growth, enhancing community engagement, addressing housing affordability and climate change. If we work together, stay committed and create goals, we can work toward solving the issues our community faces by articulating clearer objectives. There is a need to be more efficient with tax dollars to ensure that the Town of Whitby can deliver the essential services our community can expect and rely on. NAME: PG Case OCCUPATION: Telecommunication manager WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN? I've had the pleasure of serving the community in various capacities for almost 20 years. During this time, I've seen areas for growth and opportunity. My experience working collaboratively with the community, understanding political systems and strength in leadership, makes me a strong candidate to bring about the changes our community deserves. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 ISSUES? Based on my interactions with the community, I see the top three issues as: community safety; affordable and accessible community programming for families, seniors, children, and youth; and addressing needs associated with developing mental wellness. NAME: John Rinella OCCUPATION: Owner, Durham Security WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN? Having served eight years with the DCDSB as a trustee, I feel I have the knowledge and skillset that council needs to continue moving Whitby forward. Over the past eight years, I have developed a passion for helping and serving those in my community. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 ISSUES? Without sounding cliché, taxes have to be on the top of everyone's list. Developing a waterfront that all can enjoy and maintaining and enhancing community safety. NAME: Rajat Sharma OCCUPATION: Software engineer, entrepreneur WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN? To contribute to the community and serve people in my city by designing a framework for better engagement and continuous improvement. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 ISSUES? Community safety: by designing and integrating systems that deter crime; property tax stabilization; enhance transparency and accountability by giving tools to the city to enhance governance and citizen experience. WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN? I am a lifelong Whitby resident. Community service has always been a way of life for our family. As our town grows, it is important to work with our residents and businesses to build a strong foundation and manage growth. We must look past ward boundaries and see the bigger picture for our town. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE PRIORITIES? Building safe communities by expanding Whitby's Traffic Calming program; thoughtful, responsible and balanced growth, including improvements to our infrastructure and moving forward with the Waterfront Master Plan; keeping taxes low, without compromising services that are important to residents NAME: Niki Lundquist OCCUPATION: Human rights and labour lawyer WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN? Centre Ward badly needs an advocate. We deal with serious traffic safety issues, a largely ignored downtown and waterfront and a housing affordability/availability crisis. As your representative, I will share information, seek and respect your views and push hard for our community. We aren't an inconvenience; we are the ward. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE ISSUES? The top three issues identified by residents are road safety, responsible development -- including ap- propriate infill and affordable housing options and investment in the water-front and in the downtown. I will also be fighting to ensure the Metrolinx project that council supported doesn't destroy our downtown communities.
