durhamregion.com | This Week | Thursday, December 8, 2022 | | 30 von MINDEN, Kathleen (Kay) Eloise June 15, 1931 - November 21, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ We are heartbroken to announce the death of our mother, Kay von Minden (nee Douds) on November 21, 2022, after a long and happy life. Kay died in her 92nd year, at Vancouver General Hospital following a brief illness. Kay was greatly loved and will be missed terribly. Kay was the beloved wife of the late Bill von Minden for 58 years. She was the dearest mother to Sylvia von Minden and Wayne von Minden, of Vancouver. Kay is also survived by her brother Sam Douds (Norma Slack) (Elgin), sister Faye Riley (Athens), in- laws Christa Wonnacott (Toronto) and Fred (Sieglinde) von Minden (Bowmanville), and many nieces and nephews. We take great comfort knowing that Kay has joyously reunited with the many beloved souls who predeceased her, including her parents (John and Matilda Douds), sisters (Nancy Wykes and Georgina George), and several in-laws and nephews. A memorial service, inurnment at Lillies Baptist Cemetery, and celebration of Kay's life will happen at a date to be announced in the spring of 2023, when the warm breezes, green grasses and birdsong of the Westport area will be in abundance to welcome Kay home to rest. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Kay's final care arrangements have been entrusted to the Scotland Funeral Home- 27 Main Street Elgin - K0G 1E0 - 613-359-5555 or at scotlandfuneralhome.com Burial, Cremation and Pre- Arrangement Services MILLER, Barbara Jean (nee Beachli) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ We are sad to share that the most incredible mother and grandma has passed away. Barbie, as so many knew her, passed peacefully at the age of 85, on Monday, November 28th. It is worth noting that her time of passing was 12:01am on the 28th; 6 years to the date that the woman who always loved to have the last word, became a resident of Fosterbrooke Long Term Care in Newcastle. Barbara was always proud of her time spent in nursing and as a supervisor for the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. She was always willing to help anyone in need and often put everyone else ahead of herself. She was married only once to the late Pat Miller, but spent a lifetime with cherished partner, the late-great Robie Moore. It would not be an understatement to say that the true love of Barb's life was her only daughter, Catherine Miller Dickhoff. Later becoming even more exuberant to welcome son-in- law, Erik Dickhoff into the family. She was the most overjoyed and loving grandma to Elliott, Cecelia, and Nigel. Barb was born on May 6, 1937, to John and Elizabeth Beachli. Survived by her brother John Beachli, and sisters Betty Borg and Margaret Brownson. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 9th at Newcastle Funeral Home. Located at 386 Mill Street South in Newcastle. Visitation at 1:00 p.m., Service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a local animal charity or to CAMH for their research on slowing the progression of dementia.
