For regional government, it's no different: creating our annual business plans and budget is one of the most important things we do! These documents outline the costs and revenues the region expects for the year, to help determine how we manage property taxes -- and water and sewer revenue -- to deliver essential programs and services. It's our priority to manage your tax dollars responsibly, which is why hearing from you is a key part of our annual budget cycle. On Nov. 24, 2022 more than 14,000 Durham residents participated in the region's 2023 budget town hall. You joined us over the phone, online and in person to provide feedback on priority areas, ask questions and learn more about the region's 2023 business plans and budgets. As one of the fastest growing municipalities in North America, the Region of Durham provides a wide range of programs and services to a growing and diverse community of residents and businesses. We ensure that the regional roads are clear and safe in the winter, that infrastructure is well-maintained, and that critical front-line services -- such as waste management, paramedic services and transit -- continue to grow with our communities. We take care of people, through compassionate social services, public health and law enforcement -- ensuring a healthy, safe and happy community for all. Durham's budget outlines the cost of delivering these essential programs and services. It ensures distribution of resources are aligned with regional council's strategic objectives and meet service, infrastructure and legislative requirements -- now, and in the future. Durham's business plans and budgets are a key component of the region's annual business planning cycle, which also includes strategic planning, economic and financial forecasting and performance measurement. In everything we do, the region works alongside municipalities, the province and federal government to ensure that Durham Region continues to grow, and our residents and businesses continue to thrive. It's about investing in our community to ensure that Durham continues to be the best place to live, work, play and invest in Ontario.
