During the week, officers checked 1,550 vehicles at RIDE stops across the region, issuing demands for roadside breath tests from 77 drivers, Durham police reported. In addition to those charged with impaired driving, another eight motorists received three-day licence suspensions for registering warning levels on breath tests, police said. Officers noted that a number of drivers were found to have blood alcohol levels high above the legal limit, police said. "Of note this week, we saw several arrested parties provide breath samples in excess of 200 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood, more than 2.5 times the legal limit -- with one driver providing samples nearly five times the legal limit," police said while releasing their RIDE results on Monday. The Festive RIDE campaign continues until the new year. FESTIVE RIDE: DRIVER REPORTEDLY FIVE TIMES OVER LEGAL ALCOHOL LIMIT Durham police officers are currently taking part in the annual Festive RIDE campaign, targeting impaired driving during the holiday season.
