Born in Toronto on January 4, 1938 to parents Alan and Margaret Mathers. She married Emmet Bracken on May 7, 1960, also of Toronto. Carol attended Loretto Abbey Catholic School in Toronto and is survived by son John, David and his wife Jacqui and Grandson Sam and her brother John Mathers. Carol will be dearly remembered by all the Mathers and McDermotts families, and lifelong friends Kathy Gallant, Barb MacLellan and Hannah Rowley. Greatly loved, and appreciated for her kind, gentle heart, her ability to laugh at herself, giggle on command, and give love to all she met. A special thanks to all the staff at Victoria Manor, who cradled her and loved her through her final moments. She is deeply missed. Visitation will take place at the Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay on Saturday, November 5 from 11:00 am until time of funeral service in the chapel at 1:00 pm. Light reception to follow. Private interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Brooklin. BUSCIGLIO, Salvatore (Sam) January 13, 1932 - October 22, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Passed away peacefully with family by his side at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Ignazia Busciglio. Loving father of Nancy and Peter (Rosemary). Cherished nonno of Stephen (Laura), Nicole, Andrew (Melisa) and Peter (Mariya), and bisnonno of Julian Marco. Son of the late Pietro and Antonina Margherita Busciglio of Bivona, Agrigento, Sicily. Predeceased by his sister Rosa, and his brothers Stefano and Carmelo. Salvatore will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. Sam's most celebrated accomplishment was his 75 years as a barber. He first learned barbershop talk in Sicily at the age of six, sweeping hair at a local salon after school. By the age of 14 he was a full-fledged hair stylist. On November 10, 1958 Salvatore packed his scissors and immigrated to Canada. He landed in Halifax and then traveled to Toronto, where he worked as a barber while awaiting the arrival of his darling Ignazia. The two got married on January 2, 1960, and eventually settled in Oshawa. They were together for over 62 years. Salvatore built a stable life for his family by opening Sam's Barber Shop, which became a household name in the Oshawa area for decades. He formed friendships with countless customers and will always be remembered for the good banter as they sat in one of his red vinyl barber chairs. Salvatore's passions included making his very own wine, sausage and soppressata, as well as cooking savoury roasts for family gatherings. He was a long-time member of the Oshawa Italian Recreation Club and Bocce Club. Sam was also an avid gardener, often appearing in the Oshawa newspaper for the oversized tomatoes, sunflowers and lilies that he and his wife grew at home. The family would like to thank Dr. Barrettara for his dedication and numerous home visits. Special thanks to Jennifer, the Occupational Therapist, as well as all the PSWs and RSWs who assisted tremendously with Salvatore's care both at home and at the hospital. We are also grateful to the staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their compassion, love and tireless efforts. DYAS, Hilda Ann ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ On October 30, 2022, with her loving husband and family by her side, we said goodbye to our beloved, Hilda Ann Dyas, who passed away peacefully at her home in her 99th year. We will miss the wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend she was but with love and gratitude will remember her life and all she brought to ours. Married for over 73 years to her loving husband Harry Dyas. They met in 1946 at The Avalon dance hall. Together on the dance floor, they floated across, for the next seventy years and raised four children Susan (Danny), Jane, Denise (Paul) and Tom. Hilda cherished her 10 grandchildren: Jennifer (John), Renee (Todd), Amanda (Ralph), Tori (Stuart), Cole, Lucas, Monica, Kendra, Lyndon (Sarah) and Dillon. And doted on her great-grandchildren: Jayden, Max, Ryleigh, Morgandy, Caitlin, Henry, William, Hannah, Hazel and Quinn. Pre-deceased by her parents Bernard and Mary- Ellen Holtforster and her eight siblings: Mary Salter, Loretta Kelly, Theresa Mosier, Joan Legree, Marg Tkaczuk, Joseph Holtforster, Veronica Murray and Ann Prout. Lovingly remembered by her dear second daughter Joan Goverde, her late husband Martin and their family, and her many nieces and nephews. Hilda was born in Trout Creek, Ontario and moved to Oshawa at four years of age. During the 1940's Hilda worked at Duplate, making glass for the war effort and creating enduring friendships. With her husband, Hilda and Harry were business- owners and together they ran Butch's Bar and the Oshawa Raceway in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Hilda was a real estate agent and a proud member for years of the Oshawa Curling Club. Any visitor to her home during the Tournament of Hearts championship knew they would be watching with her. She enjoyed telling her stories with the occasional single rye and ginger ale in hand and everyone was welcome in her home and in her swimming pool. The beautiful roses that she grew are still blooming in her garden today. We are grateful to Dr. Graham, the palliative care team, LNIN, St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the PSW caregivers. We are truly thankful for Jason Rideout and Clayre Vazquez whose kind and generous care have assisted us in keeping Hilda in her home, as was her wish. Donna SHARP, Alfred Richard ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Alfred Sharp ended his struggle peacefully, at the Quinte Health Care Belleville General Hospital, Belleville, Ontario, on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He was 93 years of age and is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Maija Liisa Sharp, his son Michael and daughter-in-law Lucia, his brothers, John and David Sharp and their dear families, and the family of his predeceased brother Stewart. Alfred was the loving grandfather of Jennifer Sharp and her husband Paul Moore; Katherine Sharp and her husband Jody Hug; and Ryan Sharp and his fiancée Sarah Mann. He was also the loving great-grandfather of Tessa Moore, Greyson Moore, and Colton Hug. Alfred will be so greatly missed by his loving family, dear friends, and his loyal companion, Tucker. He will be resting peacefully at his home on Mink Lake, Alf's heaven on earth.
