The All Saints High School student has been dancing since age 3 and will perform on both the ballet and contemporary dance teams. Auditions were held in 2022 across Canada with the eastern regionals in Oshawa. Other team members are rehearsing at a Toronto area studio on holidays and other non-school days. The Portugal World Performers Competition is the largest of its kind and is considered quite prestigious. It will honour winners with gold, silver, and bronze awards, much like in the Olympics. Her selection serves as a just reward for Prima director Mia Metcalfe and Operations director Danielle Dean who took over ownership of the school in 2020 when it fell on hard times just as Covid hit, pretty much rescuing it from closure. Both their daughters were students at the school. Since then, Prima has expanded its portfolio of options for dance, adding other genres like hip-hop, though obviously ballet is at its core, as evidenced by Erredia's success. During Covid, Prima's teachers ran online classes. "We didn't think Covid would go on as long as it did," says Dean, "but our families stayed with us through it all." The Canadian team that features Erredia will have 12 ballet dancers and 20 doing contemporary dance. With the Portugal trip entirely self-funded by participants, it's hoped that social media and local support will help dancers be able to properly fund their trip. Those wishing to support Ava Rose can contact Prima via email at: admin@primaballetschool.ca.
