The Brooklin, Ashburn, Myrtle (BAM) Lions Club is hosting the 20th annual Pitch-In Brooklin event on Earth Day, Saturday April 22, 2023 (rain or shine!), at all Brooklin parks. This is a great opportunity for you and your family to catch up with neighbours after a long, cold, winter by picking up trash at your local park to get it ready for all to enjoy as the warmer weather approaches. Bring your own mug (BYOM) as there will be drivers stop at each park to serve Tim Hortons coffee, hot chocolate, and Timbits. There will also be free stuff and a chance to win prizes. To make sure you don't miss a thing, your first step is to meet up on the Pitch-in Brooklin Facebook page. Friend us, post an idea and connect with others in the community so that can all work together to pitch in for Brooklin. Thank you to our event sponsors, Tim Hortons, Papa John's Pizza, and Brooklin Spring Fair board. Pitch-In Brooklin Is Back The Optimist Club of Brooklin recently held its annual Essay Contest, the subject this year being,"Who is an everyday hero that brings out the Optimism in you?" The winner was Charlotte Selda, a student at All Saints Catholic High School. She wrote passionately about her grandfather who had turned his life around after suffering serious health issues and is now seen as an inspiration to all those around him. Rick Zheng and Julia Ochwat, also students at All Saints, were the runners up. Judging was based on the guidelines and scoring methodology laid down by Optimist International. Charlotte read her essay at recent Optimist meeting and is pictured with her mother and Club members being presented with her winning cheque of $400 by Club President Jim McGrorey. She will progress to the District stage of the competition with the opportunity to win a college sponsorship of $2500. The Optimist Club, whose motto is 'Friend of Youth,' meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. New members are always welcome!
