After completing his education, he apprenticed with baker Herm Harris at the Harris Home Bakery at 61 Baldwin Street, which is now the Brooklin General Store. Lived in Montreal It was at Oshawa's Top Hat Dance hall that he met his future wife, Lovina Elliot whom he married in 1944. They lived in Montreal until the end of the war and afterwards purchased a house at 4 Queen Street in Brooklin where they raised their four daughters, Carol, Betty, Linda and Janet. Greer was a dedicated volunteer firefighter before becoming Fire Chief for the Township of Whitby. He actively participated in the Masons and Odd Fellows organizations and also played for the Brooklin lacrosse team which he later managed. Known for unwavering kindness, Greer used to assist school teacher Chrissie Simpson by carrying her elderly mother between rooms at their Cassels Road residence as she was unable to walk. His daughter Betty Catherwood recalls how he was always "on call" during business hours for the CIBC next door. The bank depended on him to resolve tricky situations, such as customers misplacing their safety deposit box keys. He would open the drawers and make new keys, saving the day for the bank and their customers. On June 6, 1971, the Brooklin community lost Ken leaving a void that was deeply felt by all who knew him.
