- Description
- A scanned image of a valentines cover, dated February 12, 1860. Envelope has an UNPAID 7 cancel stamp on the top right corner in blue ink. Envelope also has a second single circle Whitby postal stamp that reads "Whitby Feb 12 1860 C.W." in blue ink.
- Notes
- Unpaid stamps indicated that the postage for a letter parcel, had not been paid. It would then be the responsibility of the recipient to pay the postage. By looking at the design on the envelope, it looks like this letter may have been a valentine, leaving the unsuspecting lover to pay for the postage. The recipient also had the option of refusing the letter, in which case the carrier would not be paid and the letter not delivered.
