Whitby Rotary Club is to be congratulated on the fine work it is doing among the junior farmers of the district. In a practical and interesting manner it is stimulating the desire for better crops among the younger members of the farming fraternity through its Junior Farmers’ Seed Fair, to be held in Whitby on Tuesday next (Oct. 12). Each member of the club takes into partnership during the summer months a junior farmer. The partner is supplied with two bushels of seen oats. From the crop thus obtained each one of the junior farmers will make entries in the coming Seed Fair.
In this friendly fashion the growing of better crops is encouraged. The young farmers have the thrill of watching and caring for their seed. The competition with their fellow farmers throughout the district gives them something to work for. The constant desire to do better is inculcated in each one of them. And at the end of the year their labors are rewarded at the Seed Fair where the best crops obtained from the two bushels given each young farmer by his Rotary partner are given prizes.
Besides the fun and excitement of the contest, each young farmer is learning the technique and the value of better crops, learning which will be of increasing value as he takes his place among the adult farmers of the district.
