With the federal election out of the way, the interest of the citizens of Whitby will now be focussed on two important projects, which, if they materialize, will mean much to the town in many ways. Civic officials interviewed yesterday were hopeful of both.
One is the projected airport. It is known that one of several sites in this district recently surveyed by government officials in accordance with the promises of Hon. C. D. Howe, Minister of Transport, has been found favorable and will be recommended to the government. The site in which Whitby is primarily interested, lying between Heydenshore Park and Corbett’s Point, with acres of level land fronting on the Lake, was said to have many advantages and few disadvantages. This is the same site which greatly impressed Sir Samuel Hoare back in 1918, and of which new maps have been prepared. Another site in the Brooklin-Myrtle area, which was also surveyed, it is believed would be Whitby’s second interest. It is said to possess many advantages.
