Town Line – During this winter considerable interest has been taken in the Patrons of Industry throughout Ontario. In view of this fact, our Association at its last meeting decided it advisable to appoint a Press Committee for the purpose of giving the public a better knowledge of the workings of the order. The main object of the organization is to bring the farmers and laborers together for the social advantages arising from this meeting, and for the interchange of ideas on topics concerning their occupations. In addition to this, they also by [words unclear] to get the best return for the money they expend in procuring the common necessities of life. In short, the organization is a Farmers’ Union, similar in some respects to the various Trades’ Unions, and has for its size the amelioration of the condition of the agriculturalist. Our Subordinate Division makes contracts with different firms for supplies of implements, salt, plaster, coal and other commodities. In addition to the benefits derived from these contracts, our members last year reaped benefit from the “Beef-ring” and so well were all concerned satisfied with its workings this year, they have re-organized and increased the number of members. It is to be hoped that no man will be so narrow-minded as to expect that by becoming a Patron, he will enjoy advantages commercially, that his neighbor will not also enjoy. Nothing will give us more pleasure than to know that by our united efforts, we have broken up combines, or have in any way benefitted others. The next meeting is to be held on Mar. 17th.
