Town Line – The Almonds church trustees are called upon to settle a question that is of great moment, viz.; the joining of this appointment to that of Pickering. The final settlement of this question means life or death to this church. It appears very evident that the people of this congregation will never peacefully submit or accept such a change as this would necessitate, for such changes and the provision that would follow for our pulpit, to be made and forced upon us, would be an outrage to the church and to Christianity. We would advise those who have “mixed the dose” to examine it a little more carefully. It looks as if there was “silver” in the bottom of the bottle, rather than spirituality. Almonds Church has a clear conscience. It pays its honest debts, does not interfere with its neighbors, has no quarrels, and everything seems to be on a solid basis and in good running order. Then why not let well enough alone? Before she will submit to such an imposition and swallow “that dose” someone will have to hold her nose and pour it down. We are always glad to make changes when they are for the better; but when it is of a degenerating nature, why the Town Line people are not made that way, if some of them are hayseeds. There are some questions we would like to have answered, one of which is this. If Almond’s Church will not suffer any spiritual loss by listening twenty-five Sundays in a year to a local preacher (all due respect for local preachers) instead of a first class one as is claimed by the worthy chairman of the district, why do some churches pay $1,000 or $1,300 salary for a man when local talent will do the same good? Possibly he thinks we won’t know the difference. We feel confident that our trustees will do their part in upholding the right and position of the church they hold in trust.
