Ashburn – A correspondent sends us an account of a pleasing farewell entertainment given by Mr. Henderson, teacher, and some of his friends, which took place at Ashburn school house. Friday evening (Dec. 26). There was a large attendance. Amongst the singers was Miss Ready of Greenwood, with whose singing the audience were greatly delighted. The drama of “Ten Nights in a Bar-Room” was presented, and the characters supported very creditably.
The parts of Joe Morgan, Slade, Green, Suitshell and Mary Morgan being played by Messrs. Sowerby, Graham, Harris and Henderson and Miss Oliver respectively. The minor parts of Romaide. Wm.; Hamond, Frank Slade were well sustained.
At the close of the last act, Mr., Henderson was called before the curtain, and presented with two addresses – one from the citizens and public school, and the other from several school teachers, ex-pupils of the Ashburn School.
Each address was accompanied by five volumes of Chambers’ Encyclopedia, making the complete set, valued at $30. Mrs. Henderson was also presented with a silver fruit basket as a token of regard from her many friends.
Mr. Henderson was presented with a costly Bible by the teachers and pupils in recognition of his services as librarian.
The above must be gratifying to Mr. Henderson, after his six years’ services (we believe) in the Ashburn school, and it should also teach the public school teachers in this county, that a punctual and conscientious discharge of their duties will meet with due reward. Mr. Henderson leaves Ashburn to go to Brooklin:
