There is absolutely no truth to the report that Anne Ottenbrite is considering retiring from swimming.
Whitby’s star swimmer and Olympic gold champion said of the wire report by Canadian Press: “I was misquoted,” I don’t know how the reporter got the idea I was retiring.
I want to continue swimming till next year, for sure.”
Next year Ottenbrite plans to compete at the World’s Games and the Commonwealth Games.
Last week she swam in the Esso Cup national championships, but in her words “did not do very well,” only making it to the mid-finals.
“I’d only been in the water a couple of weeks (before the competition). March was the last time I competed.
Ottenbrite, who is studying communications at the University of California, on a swimming scholarship, said of her experience, “I just love it. I love everything about it, the people, the school itself. I like football games and all that.” “My first year was a general education year, so I haven’t decided what branch of communications I’m going to major in yet.”
Ottenbrite swims for the University team in California, where she trains according to a program laid out for the team. When she competes outside of the school she trains on her own special program.
“I swim better on my program here, than there.”
Ottenbrite, who heads back to school at the end of the month, said she wasn’t sure when her next competition would be.
